Tuition and Professional Activity

I specialise in bespoke piano tuition and coaching of impeccable quality, to enable students to fulfil their highest potential. I seek students of talent and commitment, and at a level of no lower than Grade 5. This does not mean that the student must be aiming for a concert career, but a love of Music and a desire to work hard and excel are essential prerequisites. Daily practice is indispensable. Every student is treated as an individual; I have no ‘recipe’.

Students seeking weekly pre-paid lessons are accepted on the basis of an initial consultation which is offered free-of-charge. Please note that if ad hoc tuition or one-off coaching/advice is required or advised by me, my normal hourly rate of £54.00 is payable immediately.

The ‘chemistry’ between student and teacher must be a good one, and I reserve the right not to accept a student if I consider that I am the incorrect teacher for that individual. Please note that I teach only Classical Piano, not Jazz and not Pop. The student must, naturally, have access to a good piano in working order at home on which to practise daily. If this criterion is not met, regrettably I cannot accept the student.

Students of up to school-leaving age would normally attend lessons weekly as part of a pre-booked, pre-paid ten week term. Students of university age, young adults, mature students and professionals would attend on an ad hoc basis, typically every three to four weeks or as required.

I also offer:

*Coaching in the revolutionary Feuchtwanger Exercises, developed by Peter Feuchtwanger to promote a natural fluidity in piano-playing, and rid the performing mechanism of unnecessary tension. Following in the footsteps of my great teacher and mentor, I have cured many pianists of playing-related pains by coaching them in these extraordinary exercises.

*Tuition in Music Theory, usually in preparation for ABRSM Grade 5, and Aural Training for ABRSM and Trinity Grade Examinations.

*Supplementary assistance/coaching for GCSE and A level students in aspects of their courses – eg Composition.

*Piano accompaniment and detailed preparation-coaching for instrumentalists and singers for local ABRSM and Trinity Grade Examinations.

*Piano accompaniment for auditions and music festivals.

All the above are subject to availability.
